Everyone eagerly waits for the New Year with lots of enthusiasm and  expectations. Like every year,  we always hope that the New year will be different and  better. I thought it would be good idea  to review the year 2012,  as it is coming to an end. Time to rewind and relive some moments, some good and some bad. I may not be able to cover all, but some of the major events. So here it goes.

16 Feb – Two fishermen who were mistaken as pirates killed off the Kerala coast by members of an Italian ship

10 March – Rahul Dravid retires from cricket

11 April – Earthquake hits Indonesia magintude (8.6 in the richter scale), aftershocks were experienced in Kolkata and Chennai and some other parts of India.

13 May – Our Indian parliament celebrated its 60th anniversary

23 May – Congress led UPA Government completed three years in office.

 27 May – Kolkata Knight Riders win the Indian Premiere league

28 June –  Surjeet Singh returns home after thirty years in Pakistan Jail

12 July – Dara Singh,wrestling champion and actor passes away

18 July – Rajesh Khanna India’s first superstar Passes away

20 July – Assam violence breaks out in Kokrajhar district and adjoining areas.

23 July – Pranab Mukherjee is elected as India’s thirteenth President.

27 July – London Olympics 2012  begins

12 August – India ends  with 6 medals, two silver and four bronze in London Olympics

14 August – Vilasrao Deshmukh, ex chief minister of Maharashtra passes away

21 October –  Top Indian film-maker Yash chopra passes away

25 October – Indian Actor and  comedian Jaspal Bhatti passes away

07 November – Barack Obama becomes the president of United states of America for the second time.

17 November – Chief of Shiv Sena Bal Thackarey passes away

21 November – Ajmal Kasab was hung an account of the Mumbai 2008  terror attacks

30 November – Ex prime minister of India I K Gujral passes away.

16 December –  A  twenty three year old girl who was a physiotherapy student  was gangraped in Delhi.

20th December – Narendra Modi chief Minister of Gujrat wins the assembly elections for the third time consecutively

2012 has been a mixture of some good and some sad events. By looking back, we  can smile on our achievments, collectively learn  from the mistakes, and try to make a change for the better.  Life is a learning curve and it consists of some good and some bad experiences,  but each experience helps us to grow.  I hope that 2013 brings along with it  peace, love, hope and change. I’d like to wish one and all a Happy and peaceful  New Year 2013.
