New year resolutions

It’s incredible how fast we’ve entered the year 2014 and how swiftly the past year has flown by.  Each year has its ups and downs but we always await the New Year with new hope, new aspirations and dreams. We begin each year hoping it to be better than the previous one.

Although I like the idea of making a New Year resolution, I haven’t made one yet.  So, this would be the first time I would be making  New Year resolutions and I hope to carry them out.

I’ve seen many who make New Year resolutions and break them midway. But there are many who are strong enough to carry them out right till the end. They are committed to their resolutions and see that it is fulfilled. New Year resolutions may be tough to keep but it’s not impossible.

We can use the New Year to our advantage and make amendments in our lives. We get an opportunity to introspect our lives. It’s a time to look back and analyze our life and make necessary changes. It’s always nice to resolve to give up bad habits and execute good ones.

At least by making a resolution we pave the path to create a change for the better. It doesn’t matter whether we carry it out till the end. But the intention of doing something  good for ourselves or for others is worth the try. New Year resolutions could be the first step to make a bigger change in our lives. It could be the first step to change and inspire ourselves and others too.  So, I feel it’s fun and a good move to better our future.

My New year resolution is to be better than what I was before. I’ve mentioned a few of them below.

* I hope to read and write a bit more this year. I think it’s an achievable goal.

* To become more organized.

* To maintain healthy and meaningful relations with friends and family

* To be more positive.

* To become more health conscious.

* To enjoy life to the fullest.

So do you believe in New year resolutions too ? Please share your views in the comment section.

The weekend !

This weekend was  fun and relaxing.  Having completed the blogging festival and also  one hundred posts on my blog, I decided to stay away from social networking this weekend.

It also brought forth the good news of – the death sentence of the four convicts involved in Nirbhaya’s rape case.  A good message sent across especially for the women of India and a warning for those perverts who would think twice to lay their hands on a woman.

Taking a break from blogging and facebook helped me to spend some quality time with my family.  Sunday began with mass which was exceptionally interesting.  It was a relaxed morning at home, a long chat with my sister-in-law and sister followed by a sumptuous lunch.

In the evening we visited  a close aunt of mine followed by a long drive and a dinner treat – courtesy my loving husband.  It was a week well spent well.  I couldn’t ask for anything more.

The Elusive one

Today is 2nd June and we have reasons to celebrate. Yes,  India’s women bloggers group Indiblogeshwaris has completed one year and it’s our first anniversary.  I was added to this group on facebook by Corinne Rodrigues. This group is one of a kind.  It comprises of women bloggers spread all over India. We all come from different backgrounds . We have conversations, discussions, we share jokes and the list goes on.  I was amazed to see the spirit of the ladies in the group. Each one so different and unique.  This group is  all about sharing, caring , learning and having fun at the same time. Though you don’t need to be a part of every conversation, you can still be free to share your concerns or problems here. Isn’t that great ? The amazing group of  women here are there to help you and lend you a supporting hand.

Today’s theme is  ‘ the Elusive one ‘. I have to write about something which I have been putting off for a long time.  The past few months have been quite hectic. Last month I was busy with the A2Z challenge. Due to this I hardly got time to read any books. It was writing and blogging all the way. Though I’m not an avid reader I do like reading them once in a way and now after blogging my interest in reading has increased. So, yes reading was what I’ve been putting off for too long. Last month I decided to read the book by author Ravinder Singh titled ” Can love happen twice” . It’s a heart touching  love story and I found it quite interesting.  Something which the youth of today would definitely like and relate to.  I liked the author’s simple writing style.

The plot of the story is  :

On the occassion of Valentine’s day , a radio station in Chandigarh hosts a romantic chat show. Ravin (Ravinder ) and his best friends Happy, Manpreet and Amardeep are invited as guests to talk about Ravin’s love story and his book ‘ I too had a love story ‘.  All turn up for the show except  Ravin.   The show picks up and  there is only one question on everyone’s mind : where’s Ravin ?

To answer this question the three friends begin reading  from an unpublished  copy of Ravin’s incomplete second book. The entire city listens to the shocking  story  of Ravin and the events that unfold  in his life . The TRP ratings of the show skyrocket.

Ravinder Singh is an author who writes from his heart and he’s gaining a lot of popularity.  He was born on 4th of February 1982 . 4th of February happens to be my wedding anniversary and 1982 is the year I was born.  We both are Aquarians. He spent his childhood in Orissa and the same goes for me. I found this to be quite a coincidence 🙂  I will not reveal the ending of the story to my readers. The story seems to be partially based on the author’s personal life . That is left for the readers to keep guessing. Please do read the book. So, that’s how I passed last month and I intend to read many more books in the days to come.  I would like to wish  all the indiblogeshwaris a very Happy Birthday and wish all of us many more years of togetherness. It’s fun to be a part of the multi talented, diverse and vibrant women’s group. Three cheers for Indiblogeshwaris 🙂

Xmas fun

We all love festivals and the joy, cheer and warmth that it brings along with it. I’ve chosen  ‘ X mas ‘ the topic for today, as it’s one of my favourite festivals. X mas is the abbreviation or short form for Christmas.  ‘ X ‘ is a greek letter meaning ‘ Christ ‘ and  ‘ Mas ‘ means mass. I like everything about the festival  from the  christmas tree, the lights, the decorations to Santa Claus, the cakes, wine and also the midnight mass. A festival that can be enjoyed by both the young and old equally. It is celebrated all over the world to commemorate the birth of Christ.

The preperations start weeks in advance.  People start by baking cakes, making Rose cookies and Kalkals. These are home made specialities made during Christmas. I remember my mother and sister used to bake cakes and it would almost take up the whole day 🙂  It was fun and I remember how much I loved the taste of the batter. It’s fun when all the family members get together and get involved in the preperations. That’s the best part !

Plum cake
Plum cake

The plum cake is the traditional X mas cake. The plums are soaked in  rum for months and is made just days before X mas. There’s no X mas without decorations. So people decorate their homes with the latest decorations available in the market. Some people like to select a colour theme and most often it is red and green. The Christmas tree is decorated with beautiful decorations. It’s a tradition to put up the star. The  star revealed the birth of Jesus Christ to the three wise men. They followed it to Bethlehem where Jesus was born. I normally like  to select the star. I prefer something that is bright and colourful.

 It’s nice to see shops and  markets decorated  and it’s fun shopping this time. This brings in the festive mood. Sending cards, exchanging gifts, Carol singing, hymns are part of the celebrations. Children normally write letters to Santa  letting him know what they want for Christmas. The Parents in turn buy it and Santa gifts it during Christmas  tree functions for kids. He’s a popular figure among the kids. I remember I used to get scared seeing Santa, but got used to him gradually :).

I love attending the midnight mass that is on the twenty fourth of December. The churches are decorated.  It’s nice to see everyone looking their best in their Christmas outfits 🙂 After the mass is over people wish their families and friends. Many people attend the Christmas Ball after the mass. On X mas day day people like to spend time with their own families followed by a nice Christmas Lunch which is enjoyed by family members.
